Please review the eligibility criteria and application requirements below:
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- You must be a high school senior OR college freshman for the Fall of 2024 and plan to enroll full-time at an accredited college for the Fall of 2025.
- You must be a Project SEED Alum (meaning that you started and completed participation in a Project SEED summer research program).
- You must plan to pursue a major in a STEM field. Note that first preference is given to those majoring in a chemistry-related field (chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, material science, food science, forensic science, etc. A full list can be found on the website).
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Two Essays
1. Describe your Project SEED research problem/hypothesis, experimental methods used, a summary of results, and any conclusions drawn from your findings. (300-400 words)
2. How has the Project SEED summer experience influenced your educational and career choices, and contributed to your growth as a scientist (i.e. research, mentoring, webinars, safety training, ACS fall conference, etc.)? (300-400 words)
- Two letters of recommendation to be submitted on your behalf to SEEDscholarships@acs.org.
One of the two letters should be from a chemistry teacher and the second from your Project SEED Mentor. You will be asked to enter the name and email address of the letter writer. It's a good idea to notify the letter writers before you enter their names so that they expect an email from us with instructions to submit the letter. The deadline to receive the letters is January 31, 2025.
- Unofficial High School Transcript. High school seniors upload a copy of their high school transcript.
College Freshman Applicants:
(1) Note that your letter of recommendation can either come from a high school teacher OR a college professor.
(2) You are still required to provide a high school transcript (yes, your high school will still have this on file for you) AND a college transcript. This helps the selection committee have a better sense of your long-term academic performance.
ACS project SEED applications should be submitted in English. This requirement extends to additional application elements, including recommendation letters. Note: Applicants do not need to be native English speakers. Any questions regarding this requirement should be addressed to SEEDscholarships@acs.org.
SELECTION CRITERIA: The selection committee will choose students based on the following
- Academic achievement.
- A strong and clear ability to share your Project SEED experience and future education and career goals. Responses should be complete, thoughtful, well-written, and grammatically correct, and include how SEED has impacted your plans.
- Strong letters of recommendation that confirm your interest in chemistry, and your strength as a researcher or student.
- Winners will be notified in Spring 2025.
