Funding Start Date: September 1, 2016
Funding End Date: August 31, 2018
DESCRIPTION OF THE AWARD:
This is to be considered a two-year project driven grant, and will be awarded to an established educator who wishes to develop an innovative curriculum, perform educational research, or create an outstanding educational program that will enhance the educational environment of UTMB. These funds will be awarded through an endowed professorship.
The intent of this endowment is to strengthen the educational environment at UTMB through the promotion of educational innovations, research or scholarship by a faculty member with an outstanding record of teaching excellence. This endowment is also intended to highlight and reward an individual for his/her achievement in and dedication to education.
FUNDING:
Historically $7,000-$8,000 each year. The amount is determined by the annual endowment dividends. The donors have given the Academy their permission to use this endowment as “grant” funds to support a Master Teacher who wishes to pursue a project to further perpetuate innovation or research in the educational mission at UTMB. This endowment can be used for salary support, as well as educationally-related supplies and travel. If the endowment is not to be used to support a large portion of salary support, a letter from the applicant’s chair should accompany the application outlining support for the project and affirming that time will be allowed for the project to be conducted.
ELIGIBILITY:
Qualifying Associate or Full Professors from all UTMB schools, regardless of tenure status are eligible to apply.
PROPOSAL GUIDELINES:
Applications will be accepted through the AMT website. Applications should be concise, but provide sufficient detail that the selection committee can clearly see in the proposal the continuation of the long-term teaching efforts by the applicant. The Proposal will include a face page, abstract, statement of need/rational, detailed budget, educational biosketch, and letter(s) of support at least by the applicant’s departmental chairperson.
Accountability:
Recipients of an endowment are required to submit an annual progress report of the scholarly activities resulting from the endowment support. The recipient will also be required to present the work at the Spring AMT annual Educational Symposium.
