MANDATORY FEE ARBITRATOR TRAINING
E-LEARNING COURSE ACCESS FOR NONLAWYERS SIGN-UP
Prior to seeking appointment to become a nonlawyer fee arbitrator ("lay arbitrator"), an applicant is required to attend at least one comprehensive training program on attorney fee arbitration through a local bar association or the State Bar of California. The State Bar of California offers a free online fee arbitrator training course. In order to access the course, please provide your information below. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR LAY ARBITRATOR APPLICANTS
To be qualified for appointment as a lay arbitrator an applicant must:
- provide sufficient information to the Appointments Selection Committee to its satisfaction concerning their business, professional or volunteer experience, education, or other relevant qualifications to serve as an arbitrator;
- have never been an active or inactive licensee of the bar of any state or the District of Columbia;
- have never worked regularly for a public or private law office or practice, court of law or attended law school for any period of time;
- have never worked as a paralegal, law firm staff, or law clerk; and
- have never been convicted of a felony, or a misdemeanor involving dishonesty or other moral turpitude, or an attempt or a conspiracy or solicitation of another to commit a felony or a misdemeanor of any type.
