CAUSE Pledge

I/We believe that babies should only sleep in safe cribs, bassinets or play yards.

I/We believe that breastfeeding is best for babies and should be encouraged.

I/We believe that bedsharing is a risk factor for both accidental suffocation and SIDS, and that it cannot be done safely.

I/We agree with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatricians:
- Parents and infants should sleep in close, but separate beds.
- Infants may be brought into bed for nursing or comforting but should be returned to their own crib or bassinet when the parent is ready to return to sleep.
- Infants should be placed only on their back for every sleep.
- A "safe crib" is one that conforms to the safety standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and ASTM; has a firm crib mattress, covered only by a tight-fitting sheet; and, has in it no soft objects or loose bedding.

I/We believe that our voice is stronger if we speak together than if we speak as individual organizations.

I/We pledge to advocate for a simple, clear message about infant safe sleep.

I/We pledge to promote safe sleep environments through strong standards for cribs, bassinets and play yards and to advocate for safe products.

I/We pledge to advocate for legislation that promotes and supports better infant death investigations, better data collection, and better infant safe sleep education.

I/We pledge to respond to bedsharing advocates and media depictions of unsafe sleep environments with information about infant safe sleep.

I/We pledge to be a watchdog for products that have been/should be recalled for safety issues, or for false claims of preventing SIDS.
