Thanks for registering for Ver 1.0. Many of you will be coming with traveling companions, and we are arranging some activities for them as well. There is often a blurry line between art and commerce in Santa Fe, so we designed these events as generically as possible. Please invite your compañero or compañera to let us know if he or she has any special interests related to the area. When completed, be sure to click the "Submit" button at the very bottom of this page.
If this won't pertain to you, please just click the button at the bottom of the page to continue with registration and payment. |

Only-in-Santa Fe activities for compañeros
I will be accompanied to Santa Fe, and my compañero/a would like to be included in the activities arranged for those not participating in the Ver 1.0 workshop.
|
|
(We would like this so we can give you a call to determine if you have any special interests to pursue while in Santa Fe. Or, if you do, send Dorothy Bracey an e-mail at dorothy@dorothybracey.com or call her at 505-473-9646. We will be glad to fill you in on what's going on in The City Different.) |

Gather in the lobby of the Inn of
the Governors at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
We
purposely started with this one because, like any town that
attracts tourists, some stores and goods are better than others.
And
the array of artwork -- painting, silver, pots, weavings, Colonial
Spanish -- can be confusing. (HotTip: Avoid so-called Indian pottery
painted in pastel colors:It probably came from west of here,
west as in "The
Philippines." Here's how to know the difference.)
A proven strategy for newcomers is to
first educate the eye before getting out the credit card. The city's
great museums are closed on
Monday, but we can have an opening tutorial in the city's best retail
shops
and galleries.
- Assuming the weather is good, we
will walk from the Inn of the Governors to Shush
Yaz Trading Company, one of the three best retail
shops for quality Southwest Indian art in all media.
- We
will pull you away from Shush Yaz and cross the street to Nedra Matteucci Galleries
The sculpture gardens alone are worth the trip.
- Then
we amble next door to Gerald
Peters Gallery. This is high-end art, as
beautiful as it is pricey, but since we're in the neighborhood and
there's no admission fee....
- Lunch time should be approaching, so we will stop at Mucho Gusto or La Casa Sena
- After lunch?
Remember, we're at 7,300 feet and in a Spanish culture. A
siesta is likely in order, but for those still up to a bit more
shopping, we will wander back to the Plaza via Palace Avenue, a three-
or four-block stroll replete with interesting shops and equally
interesting history. (Hot Tip: Ask about what went on at 109 Palace that played a major role in the U.S. involvement in WW II.)
- Eventually, it will get to be margarita time at La Fonda or Del Charo. But that's another story to be continued

Tuesday, 10
a.m.
- Meet in the lobby of the Inn of the Governors.
- The tour
will be on open-air vans, so dress in layers. We will tour part of downtown and Old Santa
Fe as we make our way to Museum
Hill, site of four museums unique to
the Southwest, each with an international reputation.
- $20 fee (we'll collect it on the spot) includes tour
and admission to all four museums. We will
have a private tour given by the chief curator of at least one of the
museums.
- We will
have lunch together (order from Museum Cafe
menu; tab NOT included) at 12:15. After lunch you can return
to downtown Santa Fe via city bus or spend more time in the remaining
museums.
- We will
reboard the van at Time TK to
finish the tour, returning to the plaza or the Inn of the Governors no
later than 5 p.m.

Wednesday, 10 a.m.
Up for more walking? Don't worry, in Santa Fe the mountains are around us, not under us, so it's a good walking town.
We'll leave the Inn of the Governors and walk along the Santa Fe River
(You might see it as a creek, but it really does have water.
Sometimes.) to Canyon Road. If you're a fan of all styles of painting and sculpture -- along with a Buddhist Center coffee/tea shop near a wonderful wind sculpture garden -- this is ground zero.
How many galleries? Fifty? Sixty? ¿Quien
sabe? But it will be a good morning, with lunch at the end of the five-
or six-block meander at one of the half dozen lunch places on the road.
.
Over-dosed on art? It does happen, and there are multiple other day-trip diversions possible in the area, especially if you have a car. Some of our top choices?
